Dental Services for Veterans

The best part of talking to people is seeing them smile. It eases you into the conversation and makes you feel welcomed, giving you a fuzzy feeling of warmth and a little bit of nervousness. A good conversation is filled with laughter and smiles, so it is important to protect that smile for as long as possible. Dental care is a significant part of our overall health care, and not just for flashing our pearly whites. Our mouth is filled with bacteria, not all of which is good. Cavities, gum disease, and more can be precursors for an expensive and horrid time, all at the expense of your smile. Dental services play a significant role in preventing these undesirable situations, periodically cleaning teeth and detecting problems before they can manifest into something more hazardous.

Beyond the fear of an eroded smile, maintaining dental health has a profound impact on quality of life. I am sure we all have our own favorite foods, but imagine not being able to enjoy said foods due to piercing tooth aches or infections. Would life even be worth living? Some dental pains can be so intense, people adjust their entire diet to accommodate for it, but who wants to live in a world where the only foods you can eat are oatmeal or mashed potatoes? Furthermore, oral health issues can tank confidence, in speaking and in smiling. Being complimented on your smile is one of the best compliments you can get, but to do that you need to smile, and the basis for that is having confidence to do so. Dental care services do help avoid tooth pains, but the confidence coming from good treatment is the most tangible side effect of oral health care.

Given the importance of dental care, it becomes even more necessary and meaningful to have those services available to our brave veterans. Throwing their lives on the line for our sake, these brave souls come back and find many obstacles to what we consider basic health care, which can adversely effect all aspects of life. Veterans are already at a higher risk for oral health issues due to not having easy access to a dentist while in service, but further difficulties accessing it can be permanently detrimental. Providing dental care services to veterans is a sign of gratitude, helping restore their well-being and giving them confidence in themselves to pursue the goals they want to chase.
